Tips for starting your Notion Website⚡
If you're planning to make a website in Notion, here are some personal tips to do before starting.
Get Inspired 🔎
Find some good references using Pinterest or Google to establish your website layout, style and the type of content you're planning to showcase.
Create a Notion-Blocks Prototype 🧩
Always design based on the Notion Blocks, this is very helpful because you'll already know which text is going to be a "Heading", which content is going to be a "Gallery View database" so it will be way more easy for building in Notion later.
I often use Figma to do this prototypes, but you can use tools like Adobe Illustrator, Canva or even a piece of paper. Just create this layout using the Notion Blocks base.
Build a Dashboard 📂
When you're done with the prototype, head to Notion and create a private Dashboard for a better organization and content management. This is visually helpful for you to find exactly what you need when you need it.
Synced Components 🔃
It is also very helpful to build a "components" page, where you can storage multiple synced blocks of things that could be repeated on many pages inside your website. (Footers, index, contact info, etc)
Sub-Pages Toggle 🔽
It is very important to host all your inner website pages (About, Services, Contact, etc) inside a toggle and also inside your main Home page, this is just for better workability. (This will be hidden later with CSS)
*I often create this toggle as a synced block, so I can have it always handy on all my pages.
Callouts for everything ⬜⬛🟨
Websites are built as blocks in top of blocks like with multiple sections, right? So I apply that same concept by just using callouts as containers for each section. Also, you can use custom callout IDs and icons for each one of them, because we'll hide them in CSS.
This is not just for "a better looking Notion layout" no. It's also an +extra help when you're working in CSS customization
Icon packs ⚡
If you're using icons on your website, I'll suggest you to use an icon pack, why? Because you'll have a consistent look and styling. Professional websites always focus on all the small details, so why not you too?
You can find many free consistent packs at icons8 where you can even use your brand color to match your whole style. (That's the one I always use)
Custom Widgets
Always looking for ways to improve Notion Websites there are tools like Widgets where you can create many things that can be easily embedded in Notion and give a nice details to the live website.
